• What did you recently finish reading?
THE CLOCKWORK CROWN by Beth Cato. It’s the follow-up to her debut THE CLOCKWORK DAGGER, and I got my hands on an advance copy.
Spoiler: I liked it. A lot. The steampunk aspects are blended really well with the more magical/mythical elements, the characters have breadth and depth (my favorite character is actually a horrible, horrible human being, but you know why they’re horrible, and it’s not okay but you accept that about them), and the…whoops, that would be an actual spoiler.
I don’t know that Beth’s going on my autobuy list just yet, but she’s definitely on the “pay attention” list.
• What are you reading now?
Kathy Reichs’ DEJA DEAD. It’s one of the 24 bought-but-unread books I packed and brought with me when I moved, and came up on rotation. It’s interesting, having watched BONES on and off again for years, to finally read the source material….
• What do you think you’ll read next?
*eyes the “bought-but-unread” shelf* I probably should get to ANCILLARY JUSTICE soon, before I’m the last person in skiffydom who hasn’t read it…
